"Navigating Today’s Social World as a Teen:

What Do We Know and Where Are We Going?"

Adolescents today spend much of their lives online, navigating rapidly changing digital contexts. Many are concerned about the impacts of digital technology use, particularly social media, on teens’ neurobiological development and social and emotional well-being. Yet, we still know little about when, why, and for whom social media use is actually harmful (or beneficial). This talk will review new research my lab is conducting to better understand social experiences youth are having online and the impact of these experiences on adolescent development and mental health. Future directions in this research program will be discussed.
